I got Killer a week ago and he appears to be settling in well, although he hasn’t developed a routine yet.

He now understands how to use his exercise ball and is happy to run around like a madhamster (kinda like Rhino from Bolt^{^}). However. He hasn’t yet learnt that turning around and running in the opposite direction will free him when he gets stuck in a corner. Right now, he just sort of sits there and waits for someone to come and rescue him.

He loves Josh; he will happily run all over Josh and move around on me but will just sit and shake when someone else holds him.
He doesn’t bite (he didn’t even bite the man who got him out of his original cage!) but will “nip” you when he’s done playing and wants to be put back in his cage.

He doesn’t like the green things in his muesli but loves the seeds and peanuts. He doesn’t seem to like the chocolate drops my sister bought for him yesterday but we’re not going to tell her that.

Part of the reason he hasn’t developed a routine yet is because Tay keeps waking him up when she’s bored and makes him play with her. He shows his dislike for this by weeing on her. That’s my boy!

I first got up the balls¹ to stroke him on Monday – he has the softest fur! – and I held him for the first time on Tuesday but I was scared to death of squashing or hurting him and made my brother supervise me.
His cage needed cleaning earlier and I was the only person in the house, so I had to try and get him out of his cage BY MYSELF, unsupervised and…I did it! He didn’t want to go into the ball but I got him in there! I even got him back out of the ball and onto my hand, before I lowered him into the cage.

¹ – all but one of the hamsters we have owned previously have been little psychopaths and would bite you for just looking at them (with your hands…).
