Is that *me* leaving you messages on your site?

This entry was posted 5 years, 0 months ago.

Yesterday, I got an email from someone saying that they’d love to be siblings with me and have put my link up already.

I was a bit confused about this for two reasons;

  • 1. most people make some sort of effort to get to know someone before asking them to be siblings (although I’d been to this site before, I didn’t know the owner)
  • 2. most people do actually ask to be siblings, whereas this person just stated they’d like to be siblings

I felt bad: maybe having the words “Siblings” and friends under my “Lovely People” links gave this person the wrong impression?
I emailed back saying that I don’t have siblings with this site and the siblings I did have were from my previous site (yummyrae.net).

I thought nothing more of the matter and eventually went to bed.

I got on earlier and I check to see if I have any new questions and I see this:

I think someone is possing as you, on this site http://freewebs.com/glamorousvibe on her tagboard a girl calls her self “Lirae” asked her to be siblings, and I do not think you are one who goes around on tagboards asking people to be siblings lol, if I’m wrong I’m sorry, I just thought you should be aware that someone is possiably possing as you.

I check it out, ready to apologise to this person about some bloody eejit pretending to be me and…it’s the same site I saw the day before! That’s why I was asked to be siblings!

This is the message the wannabe Lirae left:

21 Jan 07, 08:55
Lirae: Hello :) Would you like to be sisters with me? Mwah xoxo Lirae

(The URL linked by the name is http://www.lirae.net.)

I’ve had people pose as me quite a few times since I opened this site and I used to have a new poser every week or so for all of my previous sites. I normally just let it go. (I know people want to be me. I’m awesome! :P ) This is getting old now though, so I’m not going to just let this go with no mention of it.

Ways to tell if that really was me leaving you a message:

  • I don’t comment on people’s tagboards unless they commented on one of my blog posts. Saying that, I think the only person whose tagboard I have commented on in the last six months or so is Anna’s^.
    I just don’t *do* tagboards.
  • I don’t use “mwah” or “xoxo”. Ever.
  • Why would I put down my name twice? You know my name; it comes before the message. There’s no reason for me to add my name a second time.
  • I think the only time I ever use “Hello” is when I’m talking to someone I don’t want to talk to over MSN. It’s normally ended with a full stop / period.
  • I don’t leave mean messages (unless you left me one). This message wasn’t mean but some messages that have been left by wannabe Liraes are mean. If I have something horrible to say, it’ll be from my email address to yours. Or I’ll say it on my blog and get lots of new visitors from all of the e-drama.
  • I never leave a URL like http://www.lirae.net; I don’t use the “.net” extension at all and I haven’t put “www.” in my URL since my first domain (2004-ish).
  • I let people come to me; I don’t apply to be siblings or affiliates. I’m just too lazy!
  • I can spell and punctuate quite well.
  • My IP address starts with 82 and ends with 105.

You can always contact me to make sure whether that comment / message was from me or not.

Seriously, the whole *posing as Lirae* thing has got to stop. It’s getting old and you’re not winding me up; you’re only winding the other site owners up.

There will be a proper blog of my weekend (and yes; I did get to see Sam) coming up in a couple of hours.
I’m also thinking of opening hostee applications for the yummyhost.com domain. We’ll see with the next entry.
