To Buckfast Abbey to Torquay and back!

This entry was posted 4 years, 6 months ago.

Matt and I went on a day trip today. He wanted to take me to ‘an Abbey near Exeter’ and I should bring my camera.

We got there and I thought ‘WOW’:

Buckfast Abbey

(it’s a shame the people got in the way :( )

I’ve never been to Buckfast Abbey before…I haven’t actually been in ANY religious building before, so this was all totally new to me!

Matt had told me that you weren’t allowed to take any photographs using flash, so when we went around and I took photos, I was careful to stop the flash on my camera from working. I only messed up twice, which isn’t too bad…

I was taking pictures of anything that interested me and just as I finished taking a photo of the last thing of interest, a lady came up to me and told me that I wasn’t supposed to take photos but she hadn’t seen me take that photo… ;) ;)
(Apparently, you’re not allowed to take photos of stuff in museums and places of worship. BORING.)

After we exited the Abbey, we had a look around the gardens; there was a ‘Poisonous Section’^, a ‘Medicinal Section’, a ‘Cuisine Section’, a Rose Garden^ and some other sections.

We went into the gift shop and I bought a Buckfast Abbey keyring^ and Matt suggested I also buy a Buckfast Abbey pen and calculator set^.

After we’d finished up at the Abbey, we still had loads of time available, so went for a random drive. We had decided to go to Paignton but ended up getting sidetracked – I spotted a tourist sign saying that there was a CASTLE near by. Off we went in search of the castle…we missed the turning (but didn’t realise until we were heading home) and couldn’t see the castle anywhere. :(

We ended up in Torquay and had some lunch (McDonald’s), then went to the Torquay version of the Hoe.

The Hoe is boring but WOW the Torquay version is so much more boring. The wannabe palm trees^ and the houses on the cliff^ were the most interesting stuff for me.

We ended up in this little shop near the car park called ‘Animal Crackerz’, which sold (surpisingly) animal things – stuffed toys, ornaments, puppets, pens, etc! Matt found a pug toy (which he bought for one of his pet pugs) and I spotted some Meerkat fluffies – mummy Meerkats and baby Meerkats. I couldn’t resist the baby Meerkat!^ I want to go back when I have some more money, so I can buy the mummy one too. :P

After that, back to home we went.

I had an AWESOME day and I can’t wait to do it again! :D
